THE MINDS BEHIND THE STORIES

Anton Chekhov

Anton Chekhov (1860–1904) was a Russian doctor, short-story writer, and playwright. His innovations helped shape the modern short story, while The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard transformed drama. He brought close observation and an interest in ordinary lives to his fiction, often leaving readers with questions rather than explicit judgments or tidy resolutions.
